Automakers built an estimated 1.08 million cars and trucks in North America last month compared with 1.07 units a year earlier, according to Automotive News.

Production in the region topped 1 million vehicles for the 24th straight month in July, the newspaper notes.

Auto output grew 3% in the U.S. and 9% in Canada last month but slid 7% in Mexico.

North American car production dropped 7%. But truck production climbed 8%.
