McLaren Automotive says it has no plan to add a crossover/SUV to its lineup.

"McLaren is a sports car brand, and that's exactly what we're going to remain," CEO Mike Flewitt tells Bloomberg News.

The British company's strategy differs from ultra-luxury competitors that include Aston Martin, Bentley, Lamborghini and Maserati all of which plan to add SUVs to their lineups. Porsche AG, which began the trend 12 years ago, now generates half its sales from its Cayenne SUV and has just launched the smaller Macan crossover.

Last year McLaren sold about 1,400 cars worldwide. The company hopes to reach 1,600 sales this year and 4,000 by 2017.
