Nissan’s Americas Capacity to Top 2.1 Million Units in 2014

Nissan Motor Co. says its annual production capacity in the Americas will total slightly more than 2.1 million vehicles by early next year.

The company is spending some $5 billion on expansion in the region, including erecting two assembly plants that will add about 175,000 units of capacity in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and 200,000 units of capacity in Resende, Brazil, within months.

Nissan estimates that the two new plants, combined with incremental expansion at existing assembly plants and parts facilities in the region, will add more than 10,000 jobs in the Americas within six months.

Nissan says its final assembly capacity in the Americas by early 2014 will be allocated as follows:

• 450,000 units in Canton, Miss.
• 550,000 units in Smyrna, Tenn.
• 380,000 units at Aguascalientes I, Mexico
• 175,000 units at Aguascalientes II, Mexico
• 316,000 units in Cuernavaca, Mexico
• 200,000 units in Resende, Brazil
• 32,000 units in Curitiba, Brazil
