Nissan Motor Co. plans to introduce its Infiniti marque in Japan, perhaps as soon as early 2015, says the luxury unit's President Johan de Nysschen.

De Nysschen tells reporters that Infiniti is studying how to fit the brand into the Nissan dealer network in Japan.

Nissan debuted Infiniti in the U.S. 24 years ago and now sells the make in about 50 countries. But its luxury models are sold in Japan under the Nissan brand.

The company aims to boost Infiniti sales to 500,000 vehicles worldwide by 2017 from about 160,000 units last year. Nissan expects the marque to hike its sales in China to 200,000 vehicles by the end of the decade from 16,000 units in 2012.
