Nissan Reveals Sketch of New Datsun Model
Nissan Motor Co. has unveiled drawings of the first model planned for its revived Datsun brand.
Nissan Motor Co. has unveiled drawings of the first model planned for its revived Datsun brand. The little people mover will be publicly unveiled in New Delhi, India, next Monday.
The stylish car is expected to be priced at $3,000-$5,000 when it goes on sale in India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa next year.
Nissan will build the new Datsun at the Indian manufacturing complex it operates with partner Renault SA in Chennai. Renault plans to begin assembling its own ultra-low-priced car there in 2015.
The Chennai facility will add capacity next year to locally make engines for the new Datsun and Renault models, according to The Wall Street Journal. Domestic production will enable the companies to avoid India's 60% import duty on foreign-made powerplants.
