Nissan Motor Co. says it will add production of its 2014 Versa Note mini MPV at its plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico, this spring. The Nikkei reported the impending announcement last month.

Nissan, which began selling the current Note in Japan in September, will introduce the nameplate to the North American market this week during the Detroit auto show.

The Aguascalientes facility currently builds the March small hatchback and Versa small sedan. Nissan tells Bloomberg News it will continue to build the Note in Japan and use that facility to supply markets in China, India and Thailand. Mexican output will be sold throughout the Americas.
