Nissan Motor Co.’s Autech unit is launching a namesake sub-brand in Japan for premium versions of existing models.
The carmaker founded Autech in 1986 to make specialty vehicles, such as convertible, long-wheelbase and performance variants. These vehicles were marketed under a variety of names (Axis, Bolero, Mode Premier and Rider).
With performance models now marketed under Nissan’s Nismo unit, the new sub-brand will focus on craftsmanship, high-end materials and “immaculate attention to detail.” The first vehicle to get the treatment is the Serena Autech minivan, which will feature an upscale interior, a specially tuned suspension and new exterior colors.
Several other Autech models also are in the works, according to Nissan.
