The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating complaints that side airbags in 2008 model Honda Accord midsize cars deploy when they shouldn't.
NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation has received 28 complaints of theairbags inflating unexpectedly. The agency's probe covers 363,000 vehicles sold in the U.S.
Last summer NHTSA opened a similar investigation into complaints about frontal airbags triggering inadvertently in 2003-2004 model Honda Odyssey minivans.
At the time, the agency speculated that the problem might be caused by a defective integrated circuit within the airbag control module. That flaw led to recalls in June that involved more than 1.6 million Chrysler, Toyota and Pontiac brand vehicles.
