Ford Motor Co. plans to expand markets for its redesigned Edge midsize crossover vehicle to Europe and China in 2015, according to Reuters.
The news agency cites unnamed sources who say Ford will supply North America and Europe from plants in America but develop a version for China to be built there.
The second-generation Edge and European S-Max and Galaxy models all will share a common architecture, and all three will go into production at about the same time. The 2016 Edge is slated to go on sale in the U.S. in spring 2015.
The two-row 2016 Edge will be wider and taller than the three-row S-Max. Reuters says the new design will feature styling cues intended to appeal to SUV buyers in Europe and the U.S.
The Edge was introduced in the U.S. as a 2007 model and has been updated but not completely redesigned since its debut.
