Suzuki Motor Corp. says it has completely redesigned and upped the performance of its Swift Sport hatchback for the 2018 model year.
The upgrade is expected to include a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine in place of the current model’s 1.6-liter system, Autocar reports. The U.K. enthusiast magazine says the smaller turbo engine will be more powerful and more efficient than the 136-hp naturally aspirated 4-banger.
The carmaker released the first images of the vehicle this week and plans to publicly unveil the small car in September at the Frankfurt auto show. The third-generation model features a front spoiler and honeycomb-like grille.
Suzuki took the wraps off the base Swift hatchback in March at the Geneva auto show. That vehicle will offer a choice of two 3-cylinder engines—1.0- and 1.2-liter mills—and a mild-hybrid variant. The base Swift and Swift Sport will be underpinned by a new platform that the company says will be lighter and more rigid than the outgoing architecture.
