Ford Motor Co. is recalling 31,900 vehicles in North America that were equipped with poorly assembled Takata Corp. airbag systems. About 4,300 of the affected vehicles are in Canada.
The callback involves 2016-2017 model Ford Edge small crossovers, 2016-2017 model Lincoln MKX small crossovers and 2017 model Lincoln Continental luxury sedans.
Ford says the flaw, which is unrelated to concurrent recalls of Takata’s explosion-prone airbag inflators, can prevent front airbags from inflating completely. In some cases, the airbag cushion may detach from the airbag module. The company says it isn’t aware of any crashes or injuries related to the defect.
