Mustang Bullitt to Start at $47,500

Ford Motor Co.’s new Mustang Bullitt will carry a $47,500 sticker when it arrives at U.S. dealerships this summer.

Ford unveiled the new Bullitt in January at the Detroit auto show. The vehicle is the latest in a series of special-edition Mustang Bullitts named after the 1968 Steve McQueen film.

Power will come from a souped-up version of Ford’s 5.0-liter V-8 engine. In the Bullitt, the engine’s output has been increased to 480 hp—up from 460 hp in the base GT. Top speed is bumped from 155 mph to 163 mph.

The gains are attributed to a new air intake, an intake manifold from the Shelby GT350, improved electronic controller and a larger (87-mm) throttle body. The Bullitt also gets a black-tipped quad exhaust system based on the Mustang GT's optional active exhaust unit.

The engine is mated with a 6-speed manual transmission, Brembo high-performance brakes and 19-inch aluminum wheels. Options include magnetic dampers, Recaro seats with leather upholstery and an electronics package that adds navigation, blind-spot monitoring and an improved audio unit.
