Former Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally has been added to president-elect Donald Trump’s expanding list of prospects to become U.S. secretary of state next year.
Mulally, 71, joined Ford in 2006 as president and CEO. At the time he was CEO of Boeing Co.’s commercial airplanes operations. Trump has criticized both companies: Ford for moving jobs to Mexico and Boeing for charging too much to build the president’s next Air Ford One plane.
At Ford, Mulally is credited with reducing internal turf battles through his One Ford initiative and leading a successful turnaround plan that skirted the need for federal loans. He retired from Ford in 2014. He currently sits on the board of Alphabet Inc., Google’s holding company.
Mulally joins at least seven other candidates on Trump’s list. The Trump transition team hasn’t indicated when a final choice will be made.
