Mitsubishi Motors Corp. says it will debut new management and personnel structures on April 1 that align with those of Nissan Motor Co., which acquired a controlling 34% stake in the company last October.

President Osamu Masuko tells The Nikkei that the plan will reduce the number of MMC corporate officers 30% and swap about a dozen senior executives between the two companies. He says his company intends to “create an organization that does not ask employees’ nationality, gender or age.”

MMC’s insular past has been blamed for nurturing a series of safety defect cover-up scandals a decade ago and a 5-year-long practice of falsifying fuel economy ratings that was revealed last spring.
