Mitsubishi Motors Corp. intends to stop developing new commercial vehicles and phase out truck and van production over the next few years, according to The Nikkei, which cites no sources.

MMC's commercial vehicle production in Japan totaled only about 67,000 units in the fiscal year ended March 31 90% of them low-profit minivehicles, the newspaper reports.

The Nikkei says MMC, which already sells rebadged compact trucks supplied by Suzuki Motor Corp., plans to replace its own commercial minivehicles with models from Suzuki.
