Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is recalling 50,200 of its 2011, 2012 and 2016 model Outlander Sport SUVs to replace lift gate struts that could fail.
MMC says the strut might corrode and allow the device’s pressurized gas to escape. If that happens, the lift gate could suddenly drop and injury someone standing under it.
The defect was reported by the part’s supplier after a failure of the same component prompted another carmaker to launch a recall. MMC is not aware of any problems with its own vehicles and hasn’t determined when it will begin its callback.
