Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is recalling its 2014-2018 Mirage minicars in the U.S. to fix a flaw that can prevent the airbags from inflating in a crash.
The problem affects 83,600 vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The agency the cause is a sensor that could misread vibrations caused by a flat tire or rough road surface, conclude the airbag control computer is malfunctioning and shut down all seven of the car’s airbags.
If the malfunction occurs, a system fault warning lamp will illuminate on the instrument panel and the airbags will remain inoperative until repairs are made. MMC says its dealers will reprogram the system’s software.
