The companies will invest some 10 billion yen ($88 million) to add production lines. The plant currently makes the midsize Outlander SUV and small ASX crossover vehicle. The expansion will enable the facility to add local production of MMC’s just-introduced Eclipse Cross small crossover (pictured).

MMC hopes to hike its global sales 40% to 1.3 million vehicles by early 2020, including 220,000 units in China. Nissan Motor Co. acquired a controlling 34% stake in the carmaker a year ago.
