Chassix Holding Inc. plans to build a 140,000-sq-ft casting plant in Ostrava, Czech Republic, that will supply aluminum chassis and powertrain parts to carmakers in Europe.
The Southfield, Mich.-based company is investing $50 million in the facility, which is due to open early next year. About 350 people are expected to be employed there.
Chassix, which makes suspension control arms, steering knuckles, transmission components, driveline yokes and wheel hubs, operates 24 plants in seven countries, including two other facilities in Europe. The company reported $1.2 billion in sales last year.
Owned by billionaire Tom Gores’ Platinum Equity LLC investment group, Chassix was launched in 2013 through the merger of Diversified Machine Inc. and SMW Automotive Inc. The new company reorganized under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2015.
