Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz says cumulative sales of its GLK/GLC model have surpassed 1 million units since the compact crosover/SUV was launched 10 years ago.

Mercedes began building the first-generation GLK at its manufacturing plant in Bremen, Germany, in 2008. Production was expanded to Beijing in 2015 with the debut of the second-generation model, which was renamed the GLC. Mercedes extended output earlier this year to a third facility in Uusikaupunki, Finland, run by contract manufacturer Valmet Automotive.

Mercedes says the GLC, which is based on the C-Class car, now is its most popular crossover/SUV, with global sales in the first half of 2017 reaching an all-time high for the nameplate. China accounts for half of all GLC sales—where about two-thirds go to buyers under 40, followed by the U.S., Germany, the U.K. and France.
