Mercedes Sets Any-Month Sales Record

Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz Cars unit sold 168,100 vehicles in March, its biggest monthly result ever.

Daimler says last month's 12% surge in volume was driven by strong demand for its new GLA small car and a wide range of updated models. Sales of Mercedes-Benz brand vehicles climbed 13% to 158,500 units in March, offsetting a 9% drop to 9,600 vehicles for Smart brand city cars.

The company posted gains in all major markets, including Europe (+8% to 76,500 units), the U.S. (+11% to 27,400) and China (+34% to 24,900).
