To further distinguish its Maybach-Mercedes sub-brand, Daimler AG is giving the Maybach S 560/S 650 sedans a mid-cycle makeover.
Based on a stretched S-Class sedan, the revamped Maybach models will feature a new front-end, more color options and even more interior appointments. The vehicles will be publicly unveiled at next month’s Geneva auto show, with sales due to start this spring.
Taking cues from the 2016 Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept car, the new front is highlighted by a bolder grille with vertical struts. The front bumper sports more chrome.
Additional changes include a two-tone paint scheme with nine color combinations. A manually applied double clear coat is available for dark colors, which Mercedes says creates a piano lacquer effect and an impression of depth within the paint.
A host of new colors and trim options also are available in the interior. Nappa leather upholstery can be teamed with a choice of copper-, gold- or platinum-colored contrasting topstitching.
Output of the turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 in the S 650 has been upped to 612 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. The 560’s 4.0-liter V-8 remains at 458 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.
Mercedes says it has sold more than 25,000 S-Class-based Maybach models worldwide since reviving the sub-brand two years ago, with China, Russia and the U.S. listed as the top-selling markets. The company plans to expand the lineup later this year with a Maybach variant of the third-generation GLS crossover/SUV.
