Daimler AG Mercedes-Benz describes its Metris MasterSolutions Toolbox Van concept as a toolbox on wheels.
Unveiled at this week’s Chicago auto show, the concept truck is designed to look like a giant toolbox with colorful graphics and a roof-mounted handle and latches. The vehicle was built by Stuart, Fla.-based RENNtech Inc., which also customizes Mercedes-AMG performance cars. The vehicle highlights Mercedes’ MasterSolutions program that allows customers to order “upfit” equipment from third-party companies.
Based on the stripped-down Metris Worker fleet truck, the MasterSolutions concept features an array of shelves, racks and removable cases. The cargo area is separated from the driver by a plastic partition and has a grippy tile floor that can be removed for cleaning.
The upper rear body panel on the driver’s side of the vehicle can be flipped up to provide access to a full workbench with removable shelves and cases. This feature currently isn’t available to customers.
Like the Metris Worker in the U.S., the concept van is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine mated with a 7-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle has a cargo capacity of 2,500 lbs and can tow twice that amount.
