Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit is opening a tech center in Seattle to develop cloud computing technologies for connected cars.

The facility is expected to eventually employ 150 researchers and software developers. Mike Dosenbach, who joined Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America (MBRDNA) in April, will head the group. He previously held senior engineering and development manager positions with Amazon.com, Okta and Symetra.

MBRDNA now has six facilities in the U.S., including three in California (Carlsbad, Long Beach and Silicon Valley) and two in Michigan (Ann Arbor and Redford). The Silicon Valley site, which was opened in 1995, takes the lead on autonomous driving, advanced interaction design, digital user experience, machine learning and consumer research. Mercedes operates 25 research facilities in 11 countries.
