Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit will officially unveil the third-generation CLS-Class sedan later this month at the Los Angeles auto show.

The all-new 2019 model will retain its predecessor’s coupe-like styling. Recent spy photos indicate the car will get a pointier nose and a more distinctive headlight design.

The new CLS will ride on Mercedes’ rear-wheel-drive MRA platform, which also carries the C- and E-Class cars, and share much of its components with the former. Media reports say the CLS will be longer and wider than the E-Class, but smaller than the top-end S-Class.

Mercedes introduced the current second-generation CLS in 2011. The carmaker has no plans to rename the new model the CLE as some analysts previously speculated. The company also reportedly has decided to discontinue the shooting-brake wagon and high-end AMG versions of the CLS.
