Daimler AG’s Mercedes-AMG unit has released a teaser image of a partial convertible variant of its G-Class SUV ahead of the vehicle’s official unveiling at next month’s Geneva auto show.
The so-called landaulet G65 4x4 will feature an electrically operated folding fabric roof that opens over the rear seats while the front seats remain covered. Power is expected to come from a 620-hp twin turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 engine.
The landaulet design typically is used for limousines and other chauffeured vehicles. Daimler’s ultra-pricey Maybach brand briefly offered a landaulet for its 62 sedan before the nameplate was dropped as a stand-alone marque in 2012—Maybach has since been revived as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
The G65 4x4 Landaulet will be one of the last to use the current G-Class architecture, which was launched in 1979. An all-new G-Class is due to arrive next year as a 2019 model.
