Mazda Motor Corp. is recalling 309,000 of its Mazda6 sedans and RX-8 sports cars in the U.S. to replace Takata Corp. airbag inflators that could explode in a crash.
The campaign, which began last week, targets 2004-2008 RX-8s, 2003-2008 Mazda6s and 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 cars. Dealers are replacing the driver’s front airbag inflator with device made by another supplier.
The recall supersedes an earlier callback begun more than two years ago. That initiative involved replacing the original Takata inflator with an updated Takata design.
