Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit will unveil the Maybach variant of its GLS large crossover vehicle in November.

The timing suggests the new model may be introduced at the Los Angeles auto show that month. Production is due to start by year-end at Mercedes’ factory in Vance, Ala.

The ultra-luxury three-row crossover, which is expected to cost about $200,000, will share a platform and body panels with the base Mercedes GLS crossover and its AMG performance derivative. But the Maybach model will feature a unique front end, reminiscent of recent concepts such as the 2016 Maybach 6 coupe and last year’s Ultimate Luxury sedan (pictured).

Interior styling will mirror that of the Maybach S650 sedan, which relaunched the sub-brand in 2016. Mercedes says the new crossover’s interior also will feature a special fragrance that it describes as “white osmanthus blossom, floral and light,” complemented by a “gentle leather note and spicy tea.”
