Marelli and Green Shoots

In the vast scheme of things, it is small. But a sign that good things are to come

Marelli, a Tier One supplier, announced this morning that it is building a plant in Bowling Green, Ohio. Construction is to be complete in early 2021. It means about 75 jobs.

The plant will be part of the company’s Interiors business.

Manufacturing, assembly and warehousing operations for two bulkhead programs (a structural component for attachment of the headlamps, radiator and hood latch) will be performed in the plant.

Projected production is >760,000 units per year.

That will be performed in 50% of the 100,000-square-foot plant footprint. The company says that should it land new programs, it has the space to accommodate the production.

Things like this are often overlooked.

But as the industry makes its slow ramp to recovery, it is encouraging to see companies plan for the future.

And we are glad to see it.
