Marella Agnelli, the wife of former Fiat Chairman Gianni Agnelli, died on Saturday in Turin, Italy, at the age of 91. Gianni passed away in 2003.
Marella was the daughter of Neapolitan Prince Filippo Caracciolo and American Margaret Clarke, who’s father was a wealthy distiller. She married Gianni, the grandson of Fiat founder Giovanni Agnelli, in 1953. The couple had two children, Margherita, who is the mother of current Fiat Chrysler Chairman John Elkann, and Edoardo.
Known for her long and elegant neck, Marella was nicknamed “The Swan.” She was a longtime fashion icon, including stints as a model, photographer and designer. Andy Warhol and Richard Avedon captured her in iconic portraits. Her autobiography, The Last Swan, was published in 2014.
