Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat and Chrysler Group LLC, has indicated that he plans to remain on the job "for years to come," according to Fiat SpA Chairman John Elkann.
Elkann did not say whether he meant that Marchionne would continue to fill all his current jobs.
Marchionne also is chairman of Chrysler and Fiat Industrial SpA, which was spun off from the carmaker in early 2011. He hinted early this year that he might step down from Chrysler in 2015 or 2016.
Marchionne has groomed a number of senior managers at Fiat-Chrysler who could eventually succeed him, according to Elkann. He cites such executives as Fiat Industrial COO Richard Tobin, Iveco trucks President Lorenzo Sistino, Fiat Europe COO Alfredo Altavilla, Jeep CEO Mike Manley and Fiat Latin America COO Cledorvino Belini.
