Fiat SpA Chairman John Elkann says Chrysler-Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has agreed to remain in that role when the two companies merge this year.
Fiat is acquiring the 41.5% of Chrysler it doesn't already own in a $3.65 billion (€2.68 billion) deal with a United Auto Workers union healthcare trust. The sale is expected to be finalized by next week.
Separately, Marchionne tells reporters at the Detroit auto show that Fiat's board will discuss where to put the headquarters of the merged companies when it meets on Jan. 29. Possibilities include the Netherlands in addition to Chrysler's main office in Auburn Hills, Mich., or Fiat's existing headquarters in Turin, Italy.
Marchionne previously said he would prefer to have the merged company's primary stock listing in New York City.
