BMW will begin selling its model, shown in concept form as the Z4 at Pebble Beach last August, this summer. Toyota’s car, which will revive the company’s Supra nameplate, is due about one year from now.
ANE didn’t indicate the volume Magna Steyr expects to make. The company’s factory in Graz, Austria, currently builds the Mercedes G Class SUV, BMW 5 Series sedans and the Jaguar E-Pace crossover vehicle and I-Pace electric crossover. The plant is expected to make about 200,000 vehicles this year.
BMW and Toyota announce in 2013 they would collaborate to develop a common platform for the separately designed sports cars. The two carmakers also partner on electric-car batteries, fuel cells and powertrains.
