Ford Motor Co. plans to locally produce about five new Lincoln luxury models in China by 2022, sources tell Reuters.
The marque currently supplies all its vehicles from the U.S., which makes them subject to China’s 25% import tariffs. Lincoln, which entered the Chinese market four years ago, Lincoln sold 54,100 units there in 2017. That compared with 175,500 units for rival Cadillac.
Lincoln has confirmed only one new product for China: an all-new crossover vehicle due at the end of next year. Reuters’ sources say the brand will introduce its Aviator midsize SUV by early 2020, plus next-generation versions of its MKC small crossover and MKZ midsize sedan.
Those vehicles will be followed by the Nautilus, which will replace today’s MKX crossover vehicle. The fifth upcoming model, due in about 2020, will be a small crossover with coupelike profile, Reuters says.
The news service says all five new models are likely to include a hybrid powertrain option.
