Linamar to Produce and Sell Protean's Electric Drives

Canada’s Linamar Corp. has inked a deal with Protean Electric Inc. to produce and sell the Troy, Mich.-based company’s in-wheel electric drive motors.

Canada’s Linamar Corp. has inked a deal with Protean Electric Inc. to produce and sell the Troy, Mich.-based company’s in-wheel electric drive motors.

Linamar will use its existing manufacturing facilities, supply chains and sales team to manufacture and distribute the full range of ProteanDrive products to the global operations of North American-based carmakers.

Protean claims to be the world’s largest supplier of in-wheel electric motors. The company’s devices can be used to propel a range of hybrid and electric vehicles, including C-segment passenger models and light commercial vehicles.

Linamar, which has more than 60 manufacturing plants worldwide, produces a range of highly engineered products. Among them are powertrain and driveline components for electrified and conventionally powered vehicles.
