Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus brand is signaling plans for a compact crossover model with its new angular LF-NX concept.
The vehicle, whose exterior is a jumble of creases, folds and edges, will be publicly unveiled next week during the Frankfurt auto show.
Lexus describes the LF-NX's brushed-silver metallic exterior as an extension of its "L-finesse" design language. The treatment is intended to give the impression the vehicle was carved from a single piece of metal.
Media reports speculate that the company will put a variant of the concept into production within a year.
Lexus has enjoyed huge success with its midsize crossover RX models. But competitors such as BMW AG with its X1 and Audi with its Q3 have jumped ahead in the small crossover segment.
