Lamborghini SpA wants to move to a common platform for all its vehicles, a step that could lead to a fourth model for the ultra-luxury marquee, Motoring reports.
A modular architecture would help reduce development and production costs for new models, Lamborghini boss Stefano Domenicali tells the Australia-based enthusiast magazine. He adds that such a platform likely would be unique to Lamborghini rather than being shared with other Volkswagen Group brands.
Lamborghini’s supercar lineup currently consists of the Huracan and top-end Aventador. The brand’s first crossover/SUV, the Urus, is due early next year.
The company previously has said it expects to at least double its output to 7,000 units by 2019 with the addition of the Urus. If approved, a fourth Lambo wouldn’t arrive until at least early next decade, according to Domenicali.
