Kia Motors Corp. says it will introduce its all-new Stinger fastback sedan in Europe in this year’s fourth quarter. The car debuted at the Detroit auto show earlier this month and will go on sale in the U.S. later this year.

The car will ride on Kia’s new rear-drive platform, which also will be used by parent company Hyundai Motor Co.’s upcoming Genesis G70 luxury sedan. The chassis gives the Stinger a long wheelbase and a profile that features a long hood and short front overhang.

European buyers will be able to choose among three engine options: a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder diesel rated at 202 hp, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine that makes 255 hp and a 3.3-liter turbocharged V-6 that delivers 370 hp. An 8-speed automatic is standard. The diesel won’t be offered in the American market, and the other two models are likely to be rated at slightly lower horsepower levels than their European counterparts.

The European V-6 will likely propel the Stinger from zero to 100 kph in 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 270 kph, making it Kia’s fastest production model ever.

The Stinger was penned at Kia’s design center in Frankfurt, Germany. Pricing for European and U.S. variants will be announced closer to introduction time.
