Kia Motors Corp. is adding a turbocharged version of its Soul compact hatchback that boosts power and improves fuel efficiency.

The Soul Exclaim is fitted with Kia’s turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine teamed with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The powerplant produces 201 hp and 196 lb-ft of torque, up 25% and 30%, respectively, over the base Soul's naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-banger.

Kia says the Exclaim will have a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rating of 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The base Soul has a 25 mpg city/30 mpg highway rating.

The Exclaim also gets 18-inch wheels, red exterior accents, a chrome grille surround and dual exhaust outlets. The interior features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, pushbutton start and smartphone compatibility. New safety options include rear cross traffic alert and blind-spot detection.

The 2017-model Soul Exclaim is expected to hit dealerships later this month.
