Kia Motors Corp. aims to keep its hot-selling Stinger sedan fresh with frequent updates and adding model variants in coming years.

Customer reaction to the Stinger, which was launched last year as a 2018 model, has been “phenomenal,” Orth Hendrick, Kia North America product planner, tells AutoGuide. To help maintain interest, he says the company will take a “very aggressive” approach to making the Stinger something buyers want through its lifecycle.

Kia is still gathering data and input from owners and dealers following the Stinger’s launch. Hendrick says the company is focusing on how to keep customers engaged with new powertrains, features, color options and other styling variants. This could include a performance version and special-edition models.

The Stinger currently comes with a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 engine. Media reports speculate that a high-output V-8, such as the 5.0-liter mill that powers Hyundai Motor Co.’s Genesis G80 sedan, could eventually be offered.

Describing the Stinger as a "fashion statement," Hendrick says Kia also is evaluating a production version of the bright yellow car (pictured) used to promote the nameplate with dealers. But he says the company also doesn’t want to go overboard with such offerings.
