JLR Recalls Land Rovers for Faulty Airbags

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 40,600 SUVs in the U.S. to update a faulty control module that could disable the front passenger's airbag.

The callback covers 2010-2015 model LR2 and 2012-2013 Range Rover Evoque vehicles.

JLR says a flawed memory chip could cause a failure of the computer that detects the presence and weight of the occupant in the passenger seat. Normally the data is used to determine whether to inflate the passenger's airbag in a crash, and if so with how much force.

To correct the problem, dealers will reprogram the controller's software. The campaign is expected to begin at the end of August.
