Jaguar Land Rover Ltd. is teaming up with Shell Oil Co. on what the partners describe as the world’s first in-car fuel payment system.

The app can be downloaded this week in the U.K. and will be rolled out in other global markets later in the year. The feature initially will be available for use in 2017-model Jaguar F-Pace, XE and XF models, then expanded to Land Rover SUVs.

Owners who install the app can use a vehicle’s touchscreen to find nearby Shell stations, select fuel amounts and automatically pay for it using PayPal or Apple Pay online money transfers. Android Pay is expected to be added later this year.

After a transaction has been completed, the receipt will be displayed on the touchscreen. An electronic receipt also will be sent to the driver’s email address so it can be printed or uploaded to an expense report.

The partners claim the system is easier to use and more secure than current smartphone-based payment methods. Shell says it serves about 30 million customers every day at its 43,000 stations worldwide.
