Jeep Debuts Design-It-Yourself Hood Map Decals

Chrysler Group LLC's Jeep unit is offering customers the ability to custom-design a two-tone gray map applique for the hoods of their SUVs.

3M Corp. developed and is producing the $295 vinyl decals. The company also created the Web site (mopar.com/jeephoods) that enables customers to create their own street or topographical map of any location in North America. Fulfillment is handled by Chrysler's Mopar parts unit.

The decal, which is installed by a Jeep dealer, is available for 2007-2015 Wrangler, 2011-2015 Grand Cherokee and 2014-2015 Cherokee models. 3M guarantees the applique for three years and says the film has a life expectance of 3-5 years.

Jeep showed the hood map in concept form last spring for an event at a popular off-road trail in Moab, Utah. The positive reaction among attendees prompted the company to develop the option as a customizable aftermarket product.
