Hyundai Motor Co. is developing a souped-up version of its next-generation Veloster sports coupe that will be marketed under the company’s new “n” sub-brand, Motoring reports.
The Australian enthusiast magazine, which doesn’t cite its sources, says the Veloster N will share a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with the upcoming i30 N small car. Due to bow at the Frankfurt auto show in September, the hot hatchback will be Hyundai’s first N-badged model.
The second-generation Veloster is due in 2018. Motoring didn’t say when the N variant was expected.
Hyundai has been using specially equipped versions of the current Veloster as a testbed for its N performance technology. The heavily modified cars use a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive design that isn’t expected to carry over into production.
