Hyundai Motor Co. is calling back 977,800 of its 2011-2015 model Sonata sedans in the U.S. to repair front seatbelts that could come loose from their anchors.
The problem involves the connection between the belts and their anchor pretensioners. The pretensioners automatically cinch the belts tightly around their users in a crash. If the belt comes loose instead, the likelihood of injury increases.
The campaign was prompted by a single report of a crash in which the front passenger seatbelt detached. Dealers will inspect and repair the connector as needed when the recall begins next month.
