Hyundai Motor Co. is considering adding a traditional body-on-frame compact pickup truck to its lineup early next decade.
The new model would be in addition to a production version of the 2015 Santa Cruze concept pickup (pictured) Hyundai is planning, Scott Grant, who heads the carmaker’s Australian operations, tells CarAdvice.com. That vehicle will use a carlike unibody design and is expected to bow in 2020.
The truck-based pickup would compete with the Toyota Hilux and upcoming Ford Ranger. It likely will be sold in global markets with a focus on Australia and southeast Asia.
