Hyundai Motor Co. plans a 2020 launch for the compact pickup truck it’s developing.

The vehicle will share a unibody platform with the redesigned Hyundai Tucson crossover that’s also due in 2020, Brian Smith, who heads the carmaker’s North American operations, tells Motor Trend. He says the pickup will have four doors with seating for five people.

Hyundai showed the two-door Santa Cruz concept pickup truck (pictured) at the 2015 Detroit auto show. But production plans stalled following changes among Hyundai’s leadership team in North America.

Those efforts got back on track last summer when Hyundai’s top management signed off on the pickup. Hyundai previously estimated demand for such a model would be greater than 50,000 units a year in the U.S.

But skeptics note that sales of the Honda Ridgeline—the only other unibody pickup available in the market—totaled less than 35,000 units last year and are down nearly 30% through the first quarter of 2018.
