Hyundai Motor Co. confirms it will introduce a subcompact crossover vehicle in Europe called the Kona late this year.

A teaser image of the Kona’s headlamp reveals a narrow array that hints at what Hyundai describes as a “progressive” overall vehicle design.

The new B-segment model will be unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show in September. The car will compete with such rivals as the Opel Mokka, Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur.

The Kona will join the Grand Santa Fe, Santa Fe and Tucson SUV/crossovers in Hyundai’s European lineup. The South Korean carmaker aims to become Asia’s best-selling nameplate in Europe by 2021 with the help of 30 new or refreshed models by then.
