SEAT Readies 6 New and Redesigned Models

Volkswagen AG’s SEAT brand plans to launch three all-new vehicles and three redesigned models by 2020.
In addition to a previously announced and not-yet-named flagship crossover/SUV due in 2018, the plan calls for a new all-electric model based on VW Group's MEB electric vehicle platform. The third vehicle is expected to be a small or midsize crossover model.
The trio of redesigned vehicles will include a next-generation version of the Leon hatchback—possibly with a plug-in hybrid variant—and a new unspecified Cupra five-door hatch performance model teamed with an electric drivetrain. Currently, SEAT’s only Cupra model is based on the Leon—an Ateca Cupra with a 300-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is due next year. Seat didn’t provide any information about the third updated model.
The 2018 SUV will share a platform with the Skoda Kodiaq. SEAT is conducting an online contest to name the new model. A shortlist of finalists will be announced at the Frankfurt auto show in September, followed by a public vote in October.
The new models follow the Arona subcompact crossover and redesigned Ibiza launched earlier this year. SEAT introduced its first crossover vehicle, the small Ateca that competes against the Nissan Qashqai, in 2016.
