Honda Motor Co., which exited Formula One racing in 2008, will return in two years as a supplier of engines and energy recovery systems to the renamed McLaren Honda team.
F1 will switch in 2015 from naturally aspirated 2.4-liter V-8 engines to turbocharged 1.6-liter V-6 units. Honda has already begun developing an engine at its Tochigi, Japan research facility to meet the new F1 standard.
Honda and McLaren won 44 Grand Prix races between 1988 and 1992, capturing four drivers' championships and four constructors' championships.
Honda's return will mark the departure of Mercedes-Benz as McLaren's engine supplier. The McLaren-Mercedes partnership has won 78 races and four world championships.
